HASSELL has prepared an urban design master plan for the redevelopment of the 'Causeway Common' area between Adelaide Terrace, Trinity College and the Swan River foreshore. The site is geotechnically unstable, has high level acid-sulphate soils, is surrounded by varied public reserve areas and a mix of uses that challenges the role and functionality of the site. It is also one of the highest profile pieces of land at the eastern end of the city, requiring an innovative design solution that is of world class and that demonstrates real solutions to solve economic and environmental sustainability. The master plan provides for a new waterfront destination alongside the Perth CBD with recreational, tourism, hospitality, commercial and residential uses. Key to the environmental response is a proposed environmental learning centre that demonstrates water recycling and treatment processes.
