HASSELL won the design competition to design and implement the park Tai Po in Hong Kong's New Territories. Situated on the Tolo Harbour Waterfront, the park caters for both active and passive recreation and includes numerous features designed in a coherent modernist vernacular. These include a 20m high lookout tower and restaurant featuring a spiral timber ramp, icon fountain, ecological exhibition centre, amphitheatre, bicycle trail, promenade, and extensive open spaces. A significant area of open space around the ecological exhibition centre was designed as an ecological garden with open water, aquatic plantings and specialist ornamental plantings carefully specified and arranged to attract local wildlife.
