Olympic Park Station

Olympic Park Station forms the major public entrance to the Homebush Bay Olympic Park. Extensive crowd modelling was undertaken using computer programmes developed for the London underground, to ensure the station can accommodate 50,000 passengers per hour attending major events. The strong environmental agenda adopted for the Sydney Olympics has been expressed through natural materials with low levels of embodied energy. The station design has a clear and direct expression of structure and function. Appropriate use of materials and refined detailing raises the building above the ordinary, combining space, structure and light to create a memorable experience.
