Adelaide City Council engaged HASSELL to review the proposed design for the paving upgrade of James Place, a quaint open laneway connecting pedestrians between Grenfell Street and Rundle Mall. HASSELL achieved an outstanding built outcome through simple, clear graphics and design proposals to change the type, colour and size of pavers to improve the aesthetic and performance of the laneway. Working collaboratively with Council’s Urban Design Unit and engineers, HASSELL used the urban design process to raise the design standard for pavement replacement programs within Council.
