National Motor Museum, Birdwood, SA, Australia

A pavilion for displaying a wide range of vehicles and motoring artefacts provided an opportunity for an integrated architectural and landscape design that complemented the existing museum complex in a rural heritage setting at Birdwood, in the Adelaide Hills. Although located adjacent to heritage buildings of stone, timber and brick, the materials and form of the new pavilion are uncompromisingly modern. Two exhibition spaces are linked by a vehicle and pedestrian ramp, allowing easy movement of exhibits and visitors.
