The stage 1 redevelopment of the Dandenong Hospital is based on an innovative approach to planning of patient wards which derives from the flexibility provided by state of the art communication technologies. The resulting environment is quiet, light and restful yet optimistic. The project houses both adult acute beds and sub-acute aged beds and rehabilitation services which are integrated with the external landscape over several levels. The ward at level 2 is effectively at ground level, and external and landscaped areas are intimately integrated with the facilities. Level 1 of the building houses a spectacular hydrotherapy pool, lit by sunken landscaped courtyards. |
