Santos Petroleum Engineering Building, University of Adelaide

    HASSELL

Commendation New Building - 2003 RAIA Awards (SA Chapter)
    Jury's Comments:
"The northern facade is a contemporary interpretation of traditional collegiate buildings. The use of red brick and fenestration detailing is well articulated and completes the walled vista to the Barr Smith Library. The eastern facade opens up and erodes the building mass while the industrial nature of the southern and western facades intentionally exposes the structural frame and services revealing the building's working purpose.
The jury has awarded a commendation for an extremely sophisticated and controlled work. The architect's skill in restrained planning and clean detailing go beyond the expected. The building exerts a timeless aesthetic to the Lower Level Campus and will shine as an example for future developments."
