The RTA Crashlab is a specialist and highly technical facility, and the sole provider of independent compliance and performance testing of vehicles, vehicle components and protective equipment in Australia. The diverse activities of the programme informed the development of the plan with the dynamic actions of the vehicle testing process reflected in the extrudendulating surfaces of the cladding. The design is sustainable in its use of natural ventilation, daylighting and demountable/re-usable structure. Climate control is limited to inhabited areas and rooms requiring precise temperature control for equipment and vehicle calibration. The building provides a valuable community function by enabling Crashlab to efficiently contribute to the continual improvement of vehicle safety. |
