This university village master plan provides direction for the development and refinement of JCU's Douglas campus for the next 20 years - a combination of ‘town and gown’. The main street, a uniquely urban place, will greet visitors to the University with a mixture of retail, commercial and community uses. The green spine, a defining feature, will reinforce existing buildings of value. The vision for the JCU University Village centres around the core elements of learning, creativity, community and sustainability. To achieve richness and authenticity, the development will build upon the initial detailed mix of uses and precincts, each with a subtly differentiated character and appeal, particularly at the ground level, providing the fundamental connection point between the elements of place, activity and community. The project is urban and integrated with nature, and over time will provide a significant point of difference for Townsville/Thuringowa. |
